Appleton, WI (December 28, 2015) SOAR Fox Cities, Inc. is happy to welcome Amber Nelson as the new Director of Development to their team. Amber has 5 years Development experience in different nonprofit organizations throughout Wisconsin. After graduating for UW-Oshkosh, Amber interned at the Special Olympics Wisconsin Fox Valley Area. Here is where she realized her passion for working at nonprofit organizations and fundraising. Amber then joined AmeriCorps where she was a VISTA member at Habitat for Humanity of Dane County in the Development Department. After her year of service ended she joined the Development team at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield, WI. Amber worked at the Wilson Center for almost 4 years where she gained valuable experience in special event fundraisers, corporate relationships and annual fund appeals. As a High School graduate from Kimberly, Amber is very excited to be moving back to the Fox Valley and close to her family.
Nelson stated: “I love working in Development! Seeing the generosity in others in either monetary or in kind donations is truly inspiring. I am very excited to be back in the Fox Cities and to be working at SOAR Fox Cities. The work that the team at SOAR is doing is so important and I feel honored to help them further their mission of empowering people with differing abilities.”

SOAR Fox Cities empowers youth and adults with differing abilities through its social, recreational, and educational programs. Our Special Olympics team with 250 participating athletes is the 3rd largest in Wisconsin. Due to SOAR’s new name and logo, Special Olympics uniform guidelines, and a growing number of participating athletes with financial limitations, we need to reach our goal of $40,000* for new uniforms.
For a tax-deductible donation of $150 (or more!) you could sponsor new uniforms for our athletes to proudly wear to Special Olympics events!
SOAR Fox Cities would greatly appreciate your support by donating online.
* If our goal is exceeded, additional monies will be used for uniform maintenance and to purchase much needed equipment for the team.

There is a proposed piece of federal legislation that would eliminate sub-minimum wage certificates to employers of individuals with disabilities. The Transitioning into Meaningful Employment (TIME) Act (H.R. 188), is currently in the House of Representatives. This bill would amend section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 and would cease the issuing of any special wage certificates from the Department of Labor. These certificates permit working individuals with disabilities to be paid at a wage under the current federal minimum-wage limit of $7.25/hour. If this bill were enacted, the Secretary of Labor would cease issuing any new wage certificates. In terms of transition, for profit entities would have 1 year of their certificate remaining, government entities would have 2 years, and non-profits would have 3 years before their certificate would be revoked. These time frames would be from the date the bill was signed into law. For support of the bill, it is currently cosponsored by 39 Representatives (21 – D, 18 – R) without any Wisconsin Representatives currently cosponsoring the bill. If you have questions or comments, please contact Mitch Cornils at (920) 731-9831 x111, mitch@soarfoxcities, or contact your local legislator.
